Here’s what your day looks like.
An afternoon of sporting clays with Cincinnati’s business community, followed by tacos, bourbon, cigars and trophies. Whether it’s your first time holding a shotgun or your fiftieth, this page tells you everything you need to know before you arrive.

Your team captain handles the sign-up. You handle the waiver. We handle everything else.
Your captain RSVPs the team
Team captains send us the names and emails of everyone on their team. That’s your RSVP. If you were invited by a sponsor, they’ve got this covered.
Watch your inbox for the waiver
Every shooter gets an email with the event details and a link to sign the Sycamore Sporting Clays liability waiver. It takes about two minutes. Please sign it before event day, every shooter signs their own.

Don’t own one? No problem. Let your captain know when you RSVP and we’ll make sure there’s one waiting for you.
Plan on the whole afternoon.
Check-in opens just after noon and the last trophy goes home around 5:30. The best conversations happen at the shelter after the shooting, so don’t book anything early.

Head to the picnic shelter. Pick up your ammo bag and scorecard, buy into the Calcutta if you’re feeling lucky, and grab a drink.
Safety briefing
Everyone attends, every year, no matter how many times you’ve shot. It’s short, and it’s the one part of the day we won’t start without you.

Teams head out to their first station. Three hours on the course, with snacks and water coming to you along the way.
Awards and happy hour
Back at the shelter for tacos, cold beer, bourbon, the cigar lounge, the raffle and auction, and the trophies. Wraps up around 5:30.
Think golf with a shotgun.
Your team of four moves station to station across the property. Each one throws a different set of clay targets. Some fly straight away, some cross, some bounce along the ground like rabbits. You’ll get several shots at each to find your rhythm.
Four shooters, one captain
Every team has an experienced captain who brings a shotgun that can be shared and coaches anyone who’s new. Captains handle the firearm basics so you can focus on the target.
Two courses, two trophies
Teams shoot either the Upper or the Lower course. Each course crowns its own champion, and the perpetual trophies come out at the shelter afterward.
Snacks and water come to you
Our hydration cart makes the rounds all afternoon, so there’s no need to carry anything out to the stations.
The bonus shot station
On the toughest stand of each course you can buy a bonus shot to boost your score. Every dollar goes straight to our scholars.
The Calcutta
Buy your own team at check-in. If your team wins, you split the pot with Level Up. Full details at the check-in table.
Never shot before? You’re in good company.
Plenty of our most enthusiastic shooters had never held a shotgun before their first Aiming for Opportunity. Most beginners break their first target within a few shots, and your captain will walk you through stance, mount and lead.

Outdoor clothes and closed-toe shoesThe stations are spread across the property, so plan on walking and dress for the weather. A hat and sunscreen never hurt.

A card or some cashThe bonus shot station, Calcutta, raffle and auction all go straight to our scholars. Bring a little something to play with.

From I-275, take Exit 54 (Wards Corner Road) and follow it to Lewis Road. A small bridge on your right takes you into the parking lot.
The shooting ends at four. The day doesn’t.
Everyone lands back at the shelter for the part of the afternoon people talk about the rest of the year. Stick around.
Happy hour
Taco bar, cold beer, and pours of local bourbon at the shelter.
Cigar lounge
Every guest gets a cigar and a pour of bourbon. Pull up a chair.
Awards
Perpetual trophies for the Upper Course and Lower Course champions.
Raffle and auction
A few bottles worth going home with. Bidding opens during happy hour.
Every shot fuels a scholar.
Only one in ten first-generation college students from lower-income families finishes their degree. Aiming for Opportunity exists to change that number in Cincinnati.
Every dollar this event raises goes to programming for first-generation college students: Transition Coaches and Career Coaches, scholarships, and a professional network most of them are the first in their family to have. Thank you for being part of it.
